My first Full Council Meeting - Mike Gadd

I am writing this post with a heavy heart after attending my first Full Council Meeting as an elected councillor on the 24th May. My journey began in 2019 when I thought about running for office, but I decided to wait and learn more. I went to various Parish, District and planning appeal meetings to gain knowledge and skills that would help me serve the residents who elected me and make Wealden a better place.

However, I was shocked and disappointed by the Wealden Conservatives’ attitude at the meeting. They seemed to ignore the fact that more than 64% of the voters rejected them in the local elections. I wonder if their supporters are having second thoughts now.

I want to reassure all Wealden residents that all other groups except the Wealden Conservatives fully supported the two positive motions on the agenda. These motions reflected the clear messages from the people of Wealden. We will do our best to achieve the best outcomes for our community, even though it will not be easy and we cannot guarantee success. The Wealden Conservatives have learned this lesson the hard way. But we will explore every possibility and opportunity on the motions passed and on every other issue that will arise in the next four years.

We will always offer our hand of cooperation to the Wealden Conservatives, and we hope that they will accept it after their electoral defeat. We want to work together as a united council for the common goal of making Wealden a better place for all its residents, new and old.

The motion details can be found here

Heathfield Water Leaks

Hopefully Southeast Water will on the 31st of May repair the water leak that is effecting the Heathfield Station Road West  car park,  Cllr Mike Gadd has been communicating with Southeast Waters Head of Operations since the 22nd of May 2023 and has been assured that the repair will happen and may involve traffic lights on Heathfield High Street. This will then enable Wealden District Council to carry out planned works on the car park.

There are other leaks that are apparent in Heathfield please report any more here
